Here’s a great voice exercise that’s good for getting into your body.
First drop to your knees and hands
- Get a stable position: place knees and hands a hip width apart
- Now imagine you’re a bear
Yes big, strong, full bellied, furry…What’s it feel like to be a bear?
Open and close your jaw, move your head around. Take your time. Take deep snuffly sniffs of the air through your nostrils like a bear. Now wriggle your shoulders, shake your butt and the base of your spine.
Open your jaw again. Let the breath shake out through you, panting, feel the looseness in your belly. When you’re ready the shaken softens and you’re growling with it, down in your belly, exploring your spine. Allow rather than make the growls. Sound is deeper inside you.
As you finish sit up and take some deep releasing breaths. If you want to explore more of these authentic singing embodied experiences, I offer Singing Wild workshops.
